Hi, Frank
To get your letters to the editor published, make them short, sweet and
preferably so devoid of detail that they can be classified an 'opinion
piece'. I've had plenty printed in my time, and it's a wonder that
most have been printed in their entirety (some very long, like my
letter of Simon Townsend's view that anti-Vietnam war activists didn't
end the war--which is, of course, why we held demonstrations outside
Victoria Barracks when he was imprisoned there!!).
So the wisdom on how to get letters published is largely lost on me.
We all know where to get our letters published these days, and the
printed media can go hang! By all means, submit them to the dailies so
that the letters editor can feel rotten when they refuse to publish,
but go to indymedia, substantiate your claims, give links, keep the
discourse above the waistline...
Frankly, I think liberally sprinkling you prose with the f word is a
kind of phony proletarianism. Most people turn off when you start to
throw it at them!
Cheers!
