Subject: [TS-07] Livingstone Shire declared nuclear free

Dear Friends

Tonight my brother phoned me. Over a thousand emails were received by him, and by other Livingstone Shire Councillors, from correspondents locally and around Australia, from religious groups and peace activists, from people who are unknown to him and to me, about the Nuclear Free Zone for Livingstone Shire.

The Council did pass the Nuclear Free resolution but in an amended form - nuclear powered ships have been allowed but nothing else - no weapons and no power stations on land. Brett says he didn't have the numbers if he didn't amend the wording. So it is a victory of sorts - the land is won, though not yet the sea.

Because of the volume of mail Brett received he said he was unable to thank everyone in person.

Could you please thank all the people in your network without whom even this symbolic victory could not have been won. And please keep up the pressure for a full and abiding Nuclear Free and Peace-filled Australia.

Three Cheers!

Mark
