This is the ad that was sent to us: MYFAX Faxes or Voice Mail delivered directly to your email! No phone line or fax machine required, no connection fee, no contract! Special for Bartercard members: 1 week free trial. On going cost less than just a phone line, best of all its full trade! Call Now (07) 3337 9999 & order by phone (BRISBANE) The way it works is: - you get allocated a new phone number (fax number) and then the fax is received by them (MYFAX) and it is emailed to us in a pdf format (which is a small file that can be opened by most people) - you then get our current fax number to be forwarded / redirected to this new number that we are being allocated, and all our faxes will be received by us via email - this service costs $18 per month and we can pay for it on full Bartercard trade dollars - we then can use the current fax computer for another purpose, and eventually when we have notified all the necessary regular fax senders, we can dispose of the fax/phone line They will give us a free trail for one week and then we can decide if we want to go ahead with it. I have spoken to them, and I said I would get back to them after my return from holidays in early March. Have a think about it, and let me know what you think. Obviously I like the idea, as we do not have to worry about faxes not being received, and the fax computer locking up (which it does regularly) and then faxes not being able to come through. I look forward to your responses. You'll see stories about early broadcasting in Australia, some great images, the 'Long Lost Australian Radio Stars' series and lots more of interest to everyone involved with radio..... Did you know that until this project started, there was no one place you could go to and learn about radio stations that have broadcast in Australia from the 1920's, or find out about the people who make radio come alive?....like the people at your station! As well as 'old' stations, this free access global on-line archive wants to include today's radio! Imagine 25 years from now. What would anyone wanting to know about your radio station be able to find out? Would you have some faded photos and not know who were the people in them? Could you find an old poster or program guide from somewhere? Would anyone remember the highs and lows of broadcasting to your community? It's usually a fairly dismal story...because radio is about 'now' and last months promotion or big station story soon fades as something new comes along...and people come and go faster than you can pin their names on a noticeboard! Imagine again, visiting one place on the web and finding out what your station was like 1, 5, 10 or 25 years ago! Seeing old faces, hearing old audio bites from great shows and personalities, laughing at old logos, remembering events and people......that's what the Radio Heritage Foundation is all about...so what's to be done? Here are 10 simple tips to help keep your station memories alive: 1. keep a 'memories' file and stuff it with samples of every poster, newsletter, car sticker, promotional piece of paper etc 2. take photos of your staff, volunteers and supporters at the mike, in the studio, out and about in the community...put a date and name on the photo..and keep it in your 'memories' folder 3. dig out old brochures, program guides, old magazine and newspaper articles and other bits of paper and keep them somewhere safe 4. interview some of the founders and people who started your station and find out what their dream was, and keep these oral histories somewhere safe 5. produce short little 'radio heritage' stories about your station and it's people and use them as fillers on air 6. find old audio tracks, rescue them from old cassettes, and transfer them at least to CD format and build a little audio collection of jingles, on air ID's and other great memory joggers 7. ask local newspapers and magazines to come and write articles about what your station is doing in the community 8. organise a staff and volunteer reunion [a good excuse to party!] to celebrate station milestones - and collect interviews and ask people to bring in the bits of station history they've kept at home! 9. talk about the idea of telling your station stories, and make someone responsible for co-ordinating all these ideas and making it happen 10.make sure you send us your stories, scans of old articles, booklets, images, audio and more so we can include it in the on-line archive for your station....a permanent virtual home for your station's memories!! What else? Make sure you check out our website regularly..... pass this around so staff, volunteers and supporters can also ask for our free newsletters.....and support our heritage programs as much as you're able to...so we can keep sharing your stories too! The Radio Heritage Foundation is a registered charitable trust, and like community radio, we need to fund raise to make things happen! As a special offer just for your station staff, volunteers and supporters, we've got a wonderful collection of Vintage Australian Wireless Medallions. There are 12 medallions, all featuring images of great radio sets built in Australia during the 1930's...the Golden Age of Radio. You can see them all at www.radioheritage.net. The regular price is over $650, but we've asked the designer if we could offer a special price just to community radio stations. He only had 300 sets made, and around half are sold, but he's agreed to a community radio price of just $395....he reckon's they'll look great in your station reception area...and they're gold plated at the Perth Mint! They really are a tangible link with Australia's radio heritage..and by buying just one set, you're helping us share your stories and saving over $250 at the same time! You can buy on line at www.radioheritage.net by Paypal [US$285], or send a cheque for $395 Australian to Radio Heritage Foundation, PO Box 14339, Wellington, New Zealand and the medallions will be shipped to you straight away! In the meantime, we hope our 10 tips towards keeping your station memories alive are helpful..we'll have more tips about how to keep paper and other ephemera safe in the near future...and look forward to a good relationship with your station in the future!
